2009 Colorado Global Climate Conference

To educate students on global and local climate issues
and to empower them to use their knowledge.

Hosted by Rocky Mountain High School, Fort Collins, CO


This conference was held in Denver, CO on April 19, 2009 and included over 300 high school students and teachers.

  • What
    The goal of the conference was to educate, inspire, and empower students to be informed citizens on global climate issues. Subjects included Climate Science, Mitigation/Adaptation, Opportunities, Local/National/International Impacts and Strategies, and Alternative Energy.

  • Keynote Speaker

    CMMAP and the Colorado Global Climate Conference were honored to have former NASA Astronaut and the first American woman in space, Sally Ride, as our keynote speaker for the conference. Dr. Ride is the President and CEO of Sally Ride Science, an innovative company dedicated to supporting girls' and boys' interests in math, science and technology.

    Students in grades 9-12 and their chaperones/sponsors.

  • Breakout Sessions
    Each participant will attend 3 breakout sessions from the choices below. When you register, you will need to select 7 breakout sessions for each youth and adult attending. We will do our best to place each person in 3 of their 7 indicated top choices.
    The choices are:

    • Acting It Out: Climate Change and Theater
    • We The People: Climate and Culture of Climate Change
    • How do People React to Climate Change?
    • The Science of Climate Change
    • Engines for Change: EnviroFit
    • Climate Change for All, More Pain for Some: Fairness in Climate Change
    • Green Building
    • Campuses on Carbon Diets
    • Alternative Energy
    • Atmospheric Adventures
    • Can the Law Make a Difference?
    • Governor's Energy Office

  • Travel or Substitute Reimbursement Request
    We understand that travel to conferences can be financially challenging. For this reason, the Colorado Global Climate Conference offered financial assistance (up to $200) to schools for bus or mileage costs and substitute teacher reimbursement. Interested schools completed the online application form at the time of registration. Not all requests are granted.
